Topic Description:
This presentation provides tax preparers with a practical overview of key immigration and international tax issues that commonly arise when serving immigrant, nonresident, resident alien, and U.S. citizen clients with foreign ties. Attendees will learn how immigration status can impact tax filing obligations, residency determinations, Social Security and Medicare withholding, foreign income reporting, FBAR/Form 8938 requirements, foreign gifts and trusts, passport revocation risks, economic impact payment eligibility, and common reporting mistakes involving foreign accounts, assets, virtual currency, and NFTs. The goal is to help preparers identify red flags, ask better intake questions, and avoid costly compliance errors for clients with cross-border facts.
