Topic Description:

This 2-hour online presentation will explore Circular 230 and the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR). How does Circular 230 affect what we do as tax professionals? What role does the OPR play in overseeing the paid tax preparers? Every client is a puzzle. Some are easy and others present challenges. These challenges may come in the form of a story presented by our clients that may or may not match the documents they bring in. It then becomes our job, as tax professionals, to sort out the pieces of their life in the past year, find any missing pieces and compile a complete and accurate tax return. This also means we must use the tax laws and apply them appropriately. If we fail to use due diligence in preparing the tax return, we could face monetary and criminal penalties. This course will review the penalties a tax professional could face for not making the ethical choice.

Presenter(s):

Sandra Stolich, EA
In the fall of 1992, Sandra saw an H & R Block ad offering a tax school at the local office. During this brief 10-week course she was intrigued by this profession. Soon after, she purchased a client list from an office that was closing. At that time, all 20-30returns were done by hand. On New Year’s Eve 1997, Sandra submitted a resume to the H & R Block local office and was hired. This began an 8-year journey into computer-generated tax returns and meeting fascinating clients along the way. InMay of 2004, she opened her own private tax and bookkeeping practice and thoroughly enjoyed the world of self-employment.Sandra passed the S.E.E. in 2005 and became an enrolled agent. Feeling the need to be a part of a larger family, in 2007, she discovered the Liberty Tax franchise system. In 2008,Sandra became one of Liberty’s online basic California tax-course and federal Rapid course trainers. Then in 2015, whiles till operating her two offices, she was hired as Corporate TaxSchool Coordinator for Liberty, handling all state tax education licensing and online instruction. Sandra is now back in private practice with an increasing emphasis on small business bookkeeping.
