Topic: Mileage Deductions After TCJA

Have you ever claimed mileage deductions for a client using the "cents-per-mile" method? Well, the hughtax law of December 2017 (TCJA) out-lawed tax-deferred exchanges for personal property. When a client disposes of the vehicle in question (usually by "trade-in"), you must report the "disposition" on Form 4797. Even employees who no longer claim deductions on Schedule A may have had such deductions in 2017 or earlier. When the vehicle in question is disposed of, we must file Form 4797. This applies to employees, Schedule C filers, landlords and more. Will IRS be tracking this?
