Code Breakers: Tax Research for the 21st Century Making sense of the Internal Revenue Code can feel like trying to break the Enigma Cipher. Dust off that decoder ring and join us as we explore the most efficient and effective ways to let your fingers do the walking and get to the bottom of your tax issues. In this course we’ll cover:

•Research techniques from microfiche to microchips
•How to craft a search query designed to get you to your
answers quickly and with as little scrolling as possible.
•Understanding the value of primary sources and where to
find them.  Bonus: how to spot an unreliable source.
• The hierarchy of tax law
•And much more!

Presenter:

Shannon Hall, EA

Shannon Hall spent three years studying classical theatre at an acting conservatory, so it was only a matter of time before she got into the tax business. She has been a member of CSTC since she began preparing taxes all the way back in 2012, though her tax career truly began many years before when, as a child, she would play with the tax forms in the library. Shannon has prepared taxes at respected places from her kitchen table to H&R Block, where she served as an instructor and office manager before settling in with her own practice in Long Beach, CA. She has been a presenter at several local CSTC chapters and the Summer Symposium, and has also been a guest webinar presenter for Spidell Publishing and a contributing author to Enterpreneur.com. More than anything, Shannon hopes to make tax education engaging and fun and strives to make taxes less taxing. Shannon is proud to serve as a Regional Director for CSTC.
