Description:

Every day in our practices as tax professionals, we are confronted with a myriad of legal and ethical issues. This class will explore legal issues that tax professionals are faced with from the ethical perspective relative to Circular 230 and California and federal law. In the handout material and the PowerPoint presentation, you will learn how to properly handle client relationships, client confidential information, challenges presented by clients, and the limits and regulations regarding the license that you hold as a tax professional.

Gary Quackenbush and his team operate a Financial Solutions law practice, GQ LAW, in San Diego, California. Since 1988 GQ LAW’s emphasis has been tax and financial problem solving and implementing solutions for tax problem resolution such as Offers in Compromise, audit reconsideration, appeals, installment agreements, bankruptcy, federal district court actions, federal tax court actions, etc. The GQ LAW estate planning practice focuses on wills, trusts, and estate administration including probate court work and inheritance litigation. GQ LAW also handles contract disputes, property disputes, and business matters. Small business consulting involves choice of and formation of business entities such as sole proprietorships, partnerships, corporations, and Limited Liability Companies. Gary received his Bachelor of Science degree in business finance from Brigham Young University in 1984. He received his Juris Doctor degree from California Western School of Law in 1988. He is admitted to practice in all courts in the state of California and in all courts in the state of Colorado, US Bankruptcy Court in the Southern, Central, and Northern Districts of California, Federal District Court in the Southern and Central districts of California, Federal District Court and US Bankruptcy Court in the District of Colorado, and U.S. Tax Court. Gary is a regular guest lecturer to tax professionals, attorneys, and volunteer organizations. He is the host of his own radio show the "Word On Wealth with Gary Quackenbush" - Learn how to build, protect, and transfer your wealth - Weekdays at 2pm on KCBQ FM 96.1 & AM 1170 & TheAnswerSanDiego.com also at 2pm on KPRZ FM 106.1 & AM 1210 & KPRZ.com. Gary’s Word On Wealth podcast is available on Spotify, iTunes, Podbean, and Google Podcasts. He has been a guest on UTTV “The American Dream” and the “Taylor Baldwin Show” and has appeared on NBC, ABC, CBS, and KNSD TV. He is Past-President of the California Society of Tax Consultants, San Diego Chapter and at the state level. Gary and his wife Cheryl’s growing family consists of four children, their spouses, and twelve grandchildren. Outside of the office you will find Gary spending time with Cheryl and their family, traveling, water skiing, boating, rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking, and camping.

RICHARD MATHURIN, ATTORNEY
GQ LAW is pleased to have Richard A. Mathurin II as a member of its professional team. Since graduating cum Laude from The University of Notre Dame and UCLA School of Law, Rich has enjoyed an exciting and diversified career in the practice of law. In his early career, he assisted several energy companies all over the world in the development and funding of major wind energy and other green technology projects. Following an assignment by his firm to their Far East offices in Tokyo and Singapore, Rich represented global corporations such as Hitachi, UPS, and Fuji-Xerox in major commercial transactions. More recently, Rich returned to his native San Diego to care for an ill family member and work in the local community. Rich leads the GQ LAW Tax Legal department helping clients get in compliance with complex tax laws and manage their personal and business finances. Rich also represents clients during the Trust Administration, Probate, and inheritance dispute process. When he is not working servicing his valued clients, Rich is an ardent golfer and enjoys rooting for his favorite Boston sports teams.
