Topic: 

Our course will span tax controversy issues and resolutions. We will discuss IRS & FTB Collection procedures and payment resolutions including Offer in Compromises, Installment Agreements, and Penalty Abatements. We will also discuss IRS audits and how to approach them.

Ronson J. Shamoun is a San Diego tax attorney and a three-time graduate of the University of San Diego, receiving his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Accountancy, his Juris Doctor (J.D.), and his Master of Laws in Taxation (LL.M.) degree there. He is a native San Diegan and has over 20 years of experience in the field of tax.He is the founder and CEO of RJS LAW, A Tax Law Firm. Mr. Shamoun’s practice involves federal and state taxation, with an emphasis on criminal tax defense, tax controversy, international tax, trust litigation and estate planning. Mr. Shamoun was named one of San Diego’s Top Attorneys for 2021-2023 by San Diego Metro Magazine, 2019 - 2023 Super Lawyer by his San Diego peers. And 2022 San Diego County’s Men of Accomplishment – San Diego Metro Magazine 2022. In 2021, he received the University of San Diego (USD) Mother Rosalie Clifton Hill Award – only the second law school graduate to ever receive the award. In addition, he was a 2020-2021 CEO of the Year finalist for Small Private companies by the San Diego Business Journal as well as San Diego’s 2021 Metro Men of Influence by SD Metro. And in 2020, he was honored to be distinguished as a San Diego Business Journal CEO of the Year Award Winner in the Small Private Company category as well as receiving their Leaders in Law Award. Mr. Shamoun was also selected as one of San Diego’s 50 Leaders Making a Difference by the San Diego Business Journal in 2020. He has been recognized by Martindale Hubbell as an AV Preeminent: Highest Excellence in Legal Ability and Ethical Practices beginning in 2013 through 2021. In 2017, Mr. Shamoun was proud to be recognized as one of the University of San Diego School of Law Distinguished Alumni. This prestigious designation is the highest honor bestowed upon alumni and only 87 people have received this designation since the award’s inception in 1977. Additionally, from 2016-2021 he was named one of the Top 500 Influential Business Leaders by the San Diego Business Journal.He has generously donated an annual scholarship to the University of San Diego School of Law and School of Business and contributes to numerous charities including the Girl Scouts, Honorary Deputy Sheriffs’ Association, Susan G. Komen, Rady’s Children’s Hospital, San Diego Rescue Mission, Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO), Noah Homes, Curebound, Walden Family Services, and the San Diego County Bar Association Lawyer Referral and Information Service, to name a few. Additionally, Mr. Shamoun is an adjunct professor at the University of San Diego School of Law and the University of San Diego School of Business, where he teaches Tax Practice and Penalties and Federal Tax Procedures and Policies, respectively. Mr. Shamoun also sits on the University of San Diego School of Law Board of Visitors and the University of San Diego School of Business Board of Advisors.In 2016, Mr. Shamoun co-founded the Annual University of San Diego School of Law – RJS LAW Tax Controversy Institute, which brings together tax attorneys, CPAs, enrolled agents, and tax preparers to discuss the latest changes in tax law. The Institute is a leader in teaching tax professionals the latest changes and practice tips in tax law.
