CSTC Mission Statement

CSTC advances professionalism within the tax industry by:

  • Providing quality education
  • Creating networking opportunities
  • Advocating professional standards

Here we go again...

Form 7203, CA Form 4199, the Pass-through entity credit, Schedules K-2 and K-3. The list goes on, and on, and on. So many new laws, new forms, new changes.

My overriding impression this tax season – besides utter frustration with slow e-file releases and slow tech support response times – is how much there is to learn! With so many changes and updates coming at us constantly, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. How can we be expected to learn all we need to know in the middle of tax season?

The short answer is, of course, we can’t. But we can learn it in the summer. And we really need to learn it! That’s why we have the Summer Symposium in June. After getting through tax season and taking a break to recuperate, then we can come together to learn. To learn about the new laws, to get the state and federal updates, to solidify our knowledge in familiar areas, and maybe to pursue topics in areas new to us.

This year the symposium will be held at the Silver Legacy Resort and Casino in Reno, Nevada on June 12-15, 2022. And yes, it’s being held in person! That means we once again have the opportunity to network with our fellow professionals! It’s always a great source of learning, and fun too.

There is something for everyone at the Symposium – from new preparers to old-timers.

There will be California and federal updates, which we all need, as well as a slew of topics covering everything from Schedule Cs to trusts, from retirement accounts to cancellation of debt to data security and much, much more. And of course, ethics and the ever-popular Stump the Experts where the speakers answer your questions.

One look at the theme – Tax to the Future – and you know the Summer Symposium is not all classes and seriousness. There will be social events and fun times as well. All in all, a great time to learn and to have fun!

Early bird registration is open through March 31st. Sign up now and save even more. I’m looking forward to seeing you all there!

Linda Dong
CSTC President
